Despite the millions of people who shop online, there still are millions more who don't.

They're afraid their credit card numbers might get stolen in cyberspace. They hear vague horror stories about shoppers waiting weeks or months for orders that never arrive. They don't know or trust the companies behind the Web sites.

The Internet International Business Authority (NetIBA) released today their FREE Consumer Protection Tool which aims to take some of the worry out of online shopping by giving users automatic access to the Identity BEHIND the web site.

"We are trying to help all Internet consumers avoid fraud by bringing forth a “legitimacy” of web identities. It’s insane that in the “real world” we know who we are dealing with, yet on the Internet, we are expected to purchase from anonymous sellers. Consumer’s have the right to demand the identity of companies or auctioneers they are spending their money with." says NetIBA Inc., "Our goal is to take the risk out of shopping online."

NetIBA’s Free Consumer Protection Tool is software program which resides locally on the consumers PC, thus avoiding trickery. The newly released software works only with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, but the company is developing a version for to support almost all browser types. The small program downloads in minutes and appears as a tray application after it's installed.

When shoppers wandering the Web find an online store, the Consumer Protection Tool automatically displays whether or not the merchant has validated their contact information. Information verified is official company names, physical addresses, telephone numbers and contact names. Consumers are strongly urged not to enter personal or financial information into a non NetIBA Certified web site.

NetIBA maintains a database of certified identities for consumer protection. This database is made available to local, state, and Federal law enforcement agencies. If a consumer has a problem with a web merchant, the consumer can contact the law enforcement agency located in the jurisdiction of the merchant. The agency now has simple, effective resources to assist the consumer.

The NetIBA consumer protection tool verifies web domains, auction sellers, and email identities.

Question: Why would anyone selling via the Internet not reveal their Identity?

Answer: They have something to hide. That alone should tip the consumer that this is NOT a safe purchase.
